CLAY ART
Debora Oppenheimer is a clay artist with 25 years of experience, having refined her craft under the mentorship of Michael Davis and Nancy Robbins. As a studio assistant to Robbins, she developed a distinctive artistic voice, deeply influenced by her Jewish heritage—particularly the spiritual concepts of Shevirat HaKelim (the breaking of vessels) and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). Her work is also shaped by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-sabi, which finds beauty in imperfection and embraces the transformative power of brokenness.
Debora’s ceramics are defined by asymmetry, natural glazing techniques—such as shinos and ash glazes—and the use of high-fire methods, including cone 10 gas, wood, and soda ash firings. Her vessels serve as meditative objects, inviting contemplation, transformation, and a deeper appreciation of imperfection as a path to growth.
